Sargodha ASO impounds smuggled generator & truck worth Rs07.4m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sargodha has seized a smuggled foreign origin (F/O) used diesel generator having capacity of 350-KVA which is made of USA. The value of the generator is Rs05.9million involving customs duty and taxes of Rs01.5million. The ASO team also impounded the Mazda truck worth Rs01.5million.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Collectorate Collector Muhammad Sadiq received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempts. He formed an ASO team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Javeed Mehmood and Inspector Malik Atif Mumtaz, Bashir Ahmed and Muhammad Munir Ahmed,Sepoys Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The team intercepted the Mazda truck with registration No: LES-6364 near Toll Plaza Road, Sargodha, loaded with a smuggled generator which was being transported from Lahore to Sillanwali.

The officials asked the driver for producing the documents regarding the legal import of the goods. Driver, who identified himself Javaid Masi son of Haider Masi, submitted a bilty No: 118 dated 12-06-2017 issued by Ashiq Mini Mazda Service. The same was examined and found irrelevant to the foreign origin generator.

No other import documents such as copy of GDs, Bill of Landing, Commercial Invoices and packing list have been produced by the driver.

After his failure, the ASO seized the goods and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Collector Muhammad Sadiq has appreciated the performance of the ASO team which aborted various smuggling bids in the region.
