LAHORE: The Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) will update a list of withholding agents and has started a programme to educate the withholding agents about the newly introduced properties ordinance.
This was stated by RTO-II Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sajid Ahmed, Withholding Zone, during an exclusive interview with Customs Today.
He said that the RTO-II has constituted five teams under the supervision of Additional Commissioners Atif Bashir and Muhammad Ali. Each team comprised three members of the Inland Revenue.
Each team assigned the task to train and create awareness among withholding agents about the properties in their said jurisdictions. RTO teams starts meetings and seminars of withholding agents.
Muhamamd Sajid Ahmed told that RTO-II also sending letters to the sub-registrars of the societies regarding properties ordinance.
Deputy Commissioner said that after the awareness of withholding agents RTO-II will introduce the scrutiny teams for the withholding agents. If scrutiny teams found any discrepancies, RTO-II will impose default surcharge to the agents.
Talking about the collection in the tax year 2015-16 sajid Ahmed told that RTO-II withholding zone collected Rs70,137 million from which Rs41,453 million collected under the head of income tax and Rs28,684 million in sales tax. He said that RTO achieved 100 percent tax collection target for year.
Deputy Commissioner told about the head wise collection of RTO-II withholding zone that under the head of salary head, withholding zone collected Rs15686 million as 28 percent growth from previous year. Rs5762 million in dividend as 31 percent growth, Rs9710 million in supply/ services as 16 percent growth, Rs671 million in exports, Rs987 million in rent as 21 percent growth, Rs873 million.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Ahmed said that Rs2033 million were collected from new vehicles with 14 percent less from previous year, Rs974 million collected in commission as 28 percent growth, Rs1807 million with 14 percent growth in token tax, Rs869 million from CNG sector with 4 percent growth, Rs237 million with 24 percent growth from auctions.
He said withholding zone collected 124 million with 92 percent growth from the sales of properties, Rs14 million collected from marriage halls with 36 percent growth, Rs388 million with 69 million growth from multiple dealers, Rs153 million with 36 percent growth from retailers and Rs497 million with 23 percent growth from educational institutions.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Ahmed said that the RTO-II focused on continuous stringent audit of withholding agents and ensured timely payment of taxes throughout the year. Such monitoring system yielded annual growth of 21% which is in line with national growth.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Ahmed said leadership qualities, confidence and motivation by Chief Commissioner RTO-II Khawaja Adnan Zaheer is main reason that RTO showed outstanding performance.
Deputy Commissioner told he always discussed important matters with seniors on daily basis and learns from their experiences, motivation by the Chief Commissioner Khawaja Adnan Zaheer always encourage and motivate him and commissioner as well.
He said that trust-based working atmosphere key to success. For capacity building of the officials and officers, training workshop were arranged to discuss different issues of tax laws, he added.
In response of final question Sajid Ahmed told that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Regional Tax Office (RTO-II) has assigned Rs7billion revenue collection target for the month of August and withholding zone will meet 100 percent target.
