TOKYO: Things have become so bad for Rovio that it had to resort to firing about 110 people to cut their workforce short. To further manage expenses, Rovio had to shut down its studio in Tampere, Finland.
This sudden turn of events came up when Angry Birds failed to gather momentum in terms of popularity of late.
The name and fame that the game had earlier has now been lost and Angry birds is now a game not many people would choose.
Most have now resorted to bigger names like Candy Crush and Temple Run. Other major apps that have recently made a launch in Android and iOS platforms have also been responsible for the decline of the popularity of this range.
Recent reduction of workforce has struck Rovio. The company has had about 800 people working for them till date, out of which about 110 would be asked to quite now.
This terrible name came to these users back in October, when these employees were told that Rovio no longer required their services for the operations of the company.
This would come to effect this December. This is a stark difference as compared to the previous scenario in the company, wherein their product, Angry birds was awarded with several awards and accolades and had dominated the gaming zone in the mobile phone world for quite some time.
Angry Birds Transformers, Stella and Retry are three games recently launched by this Rovio entertainment group, which have somehow failed to bring in the same revenue as Angry Birds had.
Angry Birds was a Simple mobile game when it was launched, those focused on shooting some really Angry looking birds at the structures under which the green pigs took shelter and raze them to the ground to win the round.
This simple plot was able to catch the fancy of the people and it soared to heights of success. The franchise soon grew to a standalone brand and was even aired as cartoons on television. Toys for kids of different age groups have also been manufactured along with other goods, candies and toys.
According to Rovio, they have tried their best to lay off as little number of people as they could – the initial figure was even higher as they had planned.
