FAISALABAD: The Regional Transport Authority threatened the transporters of routes and licenses cancellation if they did cut fares commensurate with the recent cut in the prices of POL products.
The authority has launched a vigorous campaign against the transporters to press them cut the fares.
On the other hand, transporters have accused the authorities of victimization, saying that the RTA and traffic police officials were imposing huge fines on them.
They claimed that the RTA, the district administration and the traffic police was harassing transporters during their drive against overcharging.
However, the officials rejected the transporters allegations, saying that the transporters were protesting because a crackdown had been launched against them for charging old fares from commuters.
It is to be noted that after reduction in fuel prices, the government issued new fares for various routes with a substantial reduction but some transporters have flouted the orders and continue to charge old fares.
The RTA official said that the government had a comprehensive plan to resolve the issue and enforce new fares. They said that the benefits of reduction in fuel prices should be enjoyed by all citizens.
