QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle Iranian diesel worth Rs 5.84 million during special checking on August 14, Tuesday.
Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle Iranian diesel out of Quetta.
He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Waris Bangash and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Quetta Road and started checking of vehicles.
During the search operation, the team intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration no: NSF-5487 which was going outside of Quetta.
During checking process, the customs team recovered 22,000 liters Iranian diesel worth Rs 5.84 million including truck being used in smuggling as the driver of the vehicle failed to produce any legal documents.
The customs team seized all Iranian diesel and truck and arrested 2 accused persons. Customs I&I team after registering a case against accused persons started investigations.
