QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Monday has foiled a bid to smuggle Indian Gutka, non-duty paid international cigarettes, and some electronics items worth Rs 9 million during special checking.
Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle Indian Gutka, non-duty paid international cigarettes and other items from Quetta to Karachi.
He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Majid Raza and others. The team enhanced the surveillance in Quetta by pass and started searching of vehicles. During the search operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: QBN-9736 which was going from Quetta to Karachi.
During the checking, the customs team recovered 200 carton of Indian Gutka, 300 packets of international cigarettes (1×10) 30 set of 36 Inches LED TVs and so many different accessories worth Rs9 million. The customs team seized all smuggle items and arrested two smugglers.
According to source, during investigation smugglers said, we were carrying these items to Karachi, we don’t have any documents about these items. Source said investigations are still going on from arrested persons.
