QUETTA: The Customs Intelligence and Investigations conducted six raids against smugglers and seized narcotics and a huge quantity of non-duty paid goods.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Junaid Mehmood received credible information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle a huge quantity of narcotics under the cover of corn flour. He immediately constituted a raiding team. The team enhanced vigilance in the area and intercepted a truck bearing registration no LA-498 and recovered 13 kilogram narcotics which were tactfully hidden in sacks.
The market value of seized narcotics is Rs 1.6 million. The customs team arrested the driver of the vehicle and registered a case of narcotics against the driver of the vehicle and started investigations.
During another crackdown and smugglers the Customs Quetta team seized huge quantity of non duty paid (60) mobile phones from the godown of a manufacturing company.
The customs team asked the manager who were later identified as Wajid Khan to show legal documents regarding import of phones but he failed to show any relevant documents.
Customs team arrested the manager and registered a case against him. The total seized narcotics and mobiles phones price is Rs2 million.
Sources said that customs teams enhanced their checking in the area and also established many new check posts on main entry and exit points of the area. Sources told that due to strict checking there is marginable decrease is being witnessed in the smuggling attempts.
