KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations Quetta has sped up its efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
Sources told Customs Today that Director Quetta Customs Intelligence received information that some luxury vehicles are being smuggled from Quetta to Karachi. He constituted a team under the supervision of deputy director comprising Inspector Asif Rehmani and Inspector Munir Khan which started checking of vehicles on entry and exit points of the city.
The team intercepted two containers and recovered three brand new luxury cars from one vehicle and three jeeps from another container. The Customs team also recovered chassis number plates of different vehicles. During initial interrogations, drivers of containers told interrogators that one person namely Shahid Khan Rehmani booked these vehicles for Karachi. Sources said that the market value of the seized goods is Rs 100 million.
While during another crackdown customs team seized huge quantity of ephedrine acid which is being used for manufacturing of narcotics. Sources said that customs authorities received information that some smugglers planning to smuggle ephedrine acid in a white car, some time later customs team noticed a white colour car which was parked outside a camp.
During checking of this vehicle customs team recovered one kilograms of epherdine acid. Customs team seized the vehicle and registered a case of smuggling against unknown persons. It is necessary to mention here that Customs authorities of Quetta already enhanced their surveillance in the area to curb smuggling attempts.
During the month of May and June Customs authorities thwarted many attempts of smuggling and seized huge quantity of non duty paid goods, vehicles during various crackdowns.
