QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle imported non-duty paid electronics items including air conditioners and different kinds of laptops worth Rs6.87 million during special checking on 17.12.2018.
Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non-duty paid electronics items from Quetta to Karachi.
He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Shakeel Ali, Qayyum Shah and others. The team enhanced the surveillance in Quetta near Bara Market check post and started searching the vehicles.
During the search operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: QBF-654 which was going outside of Quetta. During the checking, the customs team recovered 35 new branded refrigerators, more than 50 automatic washing machines, air conditioners worth Rs 6.87 million including truck being used in smuggling.
The customs team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents, but he failed to do so. After his failure, the customs team seized the goods and registered a case of smuggling against the accused person.
