MOSCOW: Imports of unmixed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) into Belarus fell in the first six months of 2016 by 21% year on year to 9,800 tonnes, according to MRC’s DataScope report. According to the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, PVC shipments to Belarus in June totalled 1,800 tonnes, barely changed on the level seen in May.
Limited export quotas for Russian producers have not allowed local converters to increase consumption. European resin has been significantly more expensive. According to the National Statistics Committee, demand for PVC from local converters fell to 9,800 tonnes between January and June, compared to 12,400 tonnes a year earlier.
Imports of PVC to BelarusThe main reason for the decline was a fall in export sales of finished products, in particular, profile-moulded products. Their exports decreased almost two-fold in the first six months of 2016 compared to the same period of 2015, totalling about 3,700 tonnes.
Russian producers have become the key suppliers of PVC to the local market this year with overall shipments totalling 7,300 tonnes or about 74% of the market. German and Polish producers were second and third with 1,300 tonnes and 732 tonnes respectively.
