HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive Sukkur, has seized foreign origin non-duty-paid 120 smuggled mobile-phone sets and their 147 contraband batteries worth Rs577402 lakh including duties and taxes during an action near Jacobabad police station of Larkana-Sukkur division during the month of July 2017-18.
Following the strict guidelines by Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team conducted various anti-smuggling activities to protect the national exchequer and inflation.
The team, headed by Additional Collector Customs MCC Hyderabad Rehmatulah Vistro,
constituted a raiding party comprising of In-charge Aziz Katpar , Inspector Agah Nazeer, Inspector Ray Abro , Nasrulah Gilal some sepoys and a driver who participated in the action.
The team intercepted a public transport vehicle near police station Jacobabad-Sukkur division Bypass Rhori and recovered abovementioned foreign origin non-duty-paid 120 smuggled mobile-phone sets worth Rs365000 lakh and smuggled batteries priced at Rs29400 involving duties and taxes of Rs183002 lakh.
Before the recovery, officials asked the driver to produce any legal document about the possession of the items but he was unable to do so therefore the consignments were confiscated.
A case was registered and an investigation also started. Officials said that Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq had directed that effective measures be taken for preventing the smuggling in the region.
