LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) spokesman has said that the Authority is in contact with the Punjab government after the short order of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in which the working of the PRA was declared illegal.
Meanwhile, the PRA has expressed the confidence in the judicial process. The LHC, in its short order, stopped the authority from collecting taxes.
In response to the short order of the LHC, it stated that it is also important to mention that the Punjab Revenue Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 promulgated in October 2015 had sought to remedy similar issues.
The court in its order has nevertheless directed that there should be a transparent process prescribed for appointment of the Authority’s members and the PRA is in consultation with the Punjab government for addressing the issue.
It further said that the court did not go into the merits of any of the cases and the Punjab Sales Tax on Services Act, 2012 and the Punjab Revenue Authority Act, 2012 remain in the field as their operation has not been touched upon by the court order.
