LISBON: The Portuguese police seized nearly ten tons of hashish in the Mediterranean Sea. A total of 6 people between the ages of 20 and 61 were arrested for drug trafficking.
These 6 men of Portuguese and Dutch nationality are suspected of belonging to a criminal organization of international dimension specialized in drug trafficking with important supporters in Portugal is explained in the press release.
The cargo was to be delivered to another country in North Africa. The exact country is unknown but the distribution of the drug was destined for Africa and European countries.
This operation was successfully carried out by the Portuguese national unit for the fight against drug trafficking. Indeed, they have put in place significant resources and have also collaborated with Europol and the maritime operations center – Narcotics. In addition, they benefited from the support of the navy and the Portuguese Air Force.
The operation took place in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, the police intercepted the ship, a Dutch flag fighter. The boat was then accompanied to the port of Portimao in the south of Portugal.
It took the cooperation of the Spanish, French, Dutch and Greek authorities after a year of investigation to set up this operation.
These different organizations are fighting hard to dismantle these networks which are relatively well organized. Trafficking in the maritime environment is a real scourge.
