LISBON: Portugal equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Utilities, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher. At the close in Lisbon, the PSI 20 gained 1.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the PSI 20 were Banco Comercial Portugues (LS:BCP), which rose 5.77% or 0.0649 points to trade at 1.1900 at the close. EDP (LS:EDP) added 3.60% or 0.0970 points to end at 2.7920 and CTT Correios de Portugal SA (LS:CTT) was up 3.02% or 0.1710 points to 5.8350 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J. Martins SGPS (LS:JMT), which lost 0.72% or 0.1050 points to trade at 14.5650 in late trade. Pharol SGPS SA (LS:PHRA) declined 0.57% or 0.0010 points to end at 0.1740 and Montepio (LS:MPIO) 0.00% or 0.000 points to 0.430. Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 39 to 10 and 7 ended unchanged on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Brent oil for February delivery was down 1.75% or 0.96 to $53.98 a barrel. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.82% or 0.94 to hit $50.85 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.53% or 6.25 to trade at $1170.25 a troy ounce. EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.0705, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8453. The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 100.59.
