WASHINGTON: Pilbara Ports Authority throughput figures from last month show a 12 per cent increase on last year. PPA delivered a monthly throughput of 52.3 million tonnes, despite a tropical low halting shipping operations at Dampier and Port Hedland for 38 hours and 17 hours and 40 minutes respectively.
The port of Port Hedland also experienced a 19 per surge from the previous year, achieving a monthly throughput of 40.5 million tonnes. Iron ore exports for January totalled 40.2 million tonnes — an increase of 19 per cent from the previous year; however, imports decreased by 9 per cent to 122,000 tonnes. The monthly throughout for the Dampier port dropped by 7 per cent from the previous year, totalling 11.8 million tonnes, and imports decreased 53 per cent to 114,000 tonnes.
