KARACHI: The importers’ community has decided to meet Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Tariq Bajwa during his visit to Karachi on May 18 (today) over continuous problems being faced by them in assessment process at Model Customs Collectorate Port Qasim.
It is learnt here that the importers have finalised their delegation which will inform FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa about the problems being faced in assessment procedure.
On the other hand, importers have also decided to stage a protest against the harsh attitude of Deputy Collector Athar Naveed during the process of assessment.
It is pertinent to mention here that the importers have repeatedly complained that Deputy Collector Athar Naveed was not performing his duties according to powers conferred on him by the federal government.
The importers are of the view that they have to wait for a long time outside the office of the deputy collector for the hearing of their cases but he does not heed to the grievances of the importers.
Collector Appraisement-East, Manzoor Hussain Memon has issued clear directives to all those deputy collectors and assistant collectors of the collectorate to first entertain the visitors who come in the collectorate for hearing of their cases.
Similarly, Collector Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem has also issued the directives to all officials to conduct the hearing of the importers’ cases till 4pm daily.
However, importers hoped that such directives would also be issued by Collector Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Suariya Ahmed Butt following the difficulties of importer pertaining to their cases.
