Poland wants to export more to China: PM

The Polish head of government was speaking ahead of talks with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the summit in Dubrovnik, southern Croatia.

Morawiecki told a news conference before meeting Li Keqiang that his government was interested in seeing China open its market more widely to Polish pork and poultry exports.

He also said that Poland was interested in playing a role in China’s ambitious New Silk Road project by being “in the centre of key talks about trade and investment.”

Morawiecki said that Chinese investment in Poland was growing and that he hoped to see an increased number of direct flights between the two countries, operated by Polish national carrier LOT and Air China, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

Leaders from 16 Central and Eastern European countries discussed ways of deepening business ties with China during talks with the country’s prime minister at the “16+1 Initiative” summit in southern Croatia on Friday.

In addition to Poland and China, the “16+1” initiative brings together Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia.
