PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) foiled a bid to smuggle 2,250 kilogram of heron worth Rs25 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Rashid Habib received credible information about smuggling of heroin. He immediately constituted anti-smuggling squad. The anti-smuggling squad established a Check Post near Motorway Toll Plaza and started checking of vehicles. During checking the anti-smuggling squad intercepted a Suzuki Alto motor car but the driver ignored the signal and geared up the vehicle.
On chasing the same, the driver of the car abandoned his vehicle and decamped from the spot. The vehicle was searched on the spot by the staff of drug cell and found contraband (heroin powder) tactfully concealed in secret cavities of the car.
The sources further informed that the motor car was then brought to the premises of the Directorate of I&I Peshawar where thorough search led to recovery of 2.250 kilograms of heroin which has been impounded along with carrier vehicle. The estimated value of the aforementioned seized narcotics and vehicle is around Rs 25 million (narcotics Rs 23 million and vehicle Rs 2 million) whereas further investigation is underway.
