PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized 12 kilograms of opium worth millions of rupees and arrested accused near Motorway Toll Plaza.
Sources of I&I told Customs Today, on direction of Director Rashid Habib the campaign against smuggling of narcotics is on full swing. An information was received to the effect that a sizeable quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from tribal areas towards down country in a Toyota Corolla bearing registration no: LEC-12-8132.
Pursuing the said information, Additional Director Wajid Zaman asked the Inspector Javed Shah and Superintend Yaqoob to make nakabandi at Motoway Toll Plaza. The vehicle was spotted from Peshawar side and it was signaled to stop but the driver of the vehicle tried to escape while intercepted after short following.
The vehicle was searched on the spot by the staff of drug cell of I&I Peshawar and found contraband (opium) tactfully concealed in the cavities of the vehicle. The vehicle was then brought to the premises of the Directorate of Peshawar where through search led to the recovery of 12 kilograms of opium which was seized along with carrier vehicle and accused Rai Habibullah.
The estimated value of the aforementioned seized narcotics and vehicle is around Rs 15.9 million (narcotics Rs 14 million and vehicle Rs 1.5 million). FIR has been lodged against an unknown driver-person and further investigation is underway.
