PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation highly direly in need of all rank staff and officers to cope with challenges of smuggling and terrorism; it also required enough financial resources to activate its informers those can provide assistance against smugglers and tax evaders.
Sources told Customs Today that I&I Peshawar facing huge shortage of staff “we have not enough financial and human resources to get desired results against smugglers and tax evaders. Sometime it look hard to purchase fuel for vehicles used for anti- smuggling squads”, the sources added that without reward no informer ready to provide his services. Official sources said that along with above said problems I&I Peshawar showed outstanding performance.
Sources told that according to instruction of Supreme Court of Pakistan to crackdown against smuggled goods, the I&I Peshawar launched various raids in different markets of the KPK to curb smuggling, it raided at Karkhano market and recovered huge quantity of non-customs paid cloth while intercepted four loaded trucks of cloths, the seized fabric was brought into the market from Afghanistan via Torkham border and later was dumped in Haroon Market Karkhano Hayatabad for onward supply, the net value of seized cloth was around Rs30 million.
Official sources mention that up to current month the Directorate of I&I Peshawar conducted huge crackdown against the anti-smuggling activities of all field formations against smuggled goods.
It added that it seized goods worth Rs1585.7 million as compare to Rs664.4 million in same correspondence FY2016-17. The Directorate earned Rs921 million extra during FY2017-18 against same past period.
