ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectore, Peshawar, has foiled various foreign currency smuggling attempts at Bacha Khan International Airport and seized foreign currency worth Rs 26.93 million during the fiscal year 2015-16.
According to the details, a passenger named Ismail was arrested at the airport when the customs officials recovered 622,000 Saudi Riyals worth Rs 17.37 million, 19,500 Qatari Riyals worth Rs 546,000, 67,700 UAE Dirham worth Rs 1.96 million and $970 worth Rs 101,850. The total value of recovered currency was estimated at Rs 19.980 million.
During another action, a passenger, Fawaj Khan, who came from Saudi Arabia was arrested when he was trying to bring 80,000 Saudi Riyals in the country illegally. The value of confiscated currency is Rs 2.2 million.
The Peshawar Customs officials also arrested Bakhat Rasool who reached Pakistan from UAE. The accused was arrested when the officials recovered 120,000 Saudi Riyals worth Rs 3.352 million and 99,000 UAE Dirham valued at Rs 1.4 million.
Officials said that all the seized currency worth Rs 26.93 million was converted in Pakistani currency and deposited to government treasury department according to customs laws.
