PESHAWAR: The Customs officials slightly escaped the attack of armed smugglers near Motorway Interchange Charsadda , when the customs anti-smuggling unit confiscated a truck loaded with smuggled cloth.
According to official sources, the anti-smuggling unit of the Customs House constituted a team to thwart smuggling activities on motorway. The team was led by Deputy Collector headquarters Mohammad Zakir who chased the smugglers with two mobiles of the customs police. They were assisted by motorway police and truck was taken into custody.
When the customs officers and police were shifting the vehicle to Customs House, armed persons attacked them and they exchanged heavy firing with police. The customs officials however remained safe in the attack and the truck was successfully shifted to the customs anti-smuggling units along with a huge quantity of foreign origin cloth.
On Monday night after successful operation customs team confiscated foreign origin cloths and arrested two persons.
