PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation thwarted a smuggling bid and seized narcotics worth Rs 130 million, besides arresting an alleged smuggler in Nowshera.
Sources said that Customs Intelligence Director Mohammad Asghar Khan received credible information regarding major consignment of charas to be shifted to Punjab via Peshawar-Nowshera road.
A team comprising Additional Director Ziaullah Shams, Intelligence Officer Faiz Mohammad and Pervez Ashfaq established a picket on Nowshera road and after checking several oil containers; they traced an oil tanker and recovered 2,158 kilograms of fine quality charas.
The officials impounded the oil tanker and shifted it to nearby police station and registered FIR against the accused person.
Following the instructions of the director, the Customs Intelligence tightened checking to curb the smuggling of notified and non-duty paid items and to arrest the accused persons.
Under the command of Peshwar Customs Collector Qurban Ali and Customs Intelligence Director Mohammad Asghar Khan, large numbers of smuggling bids were thwarted in various areas of Karkhano, Jamrod and Hayatabad.
