PESHAWAR: The Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Air Freight Unit thwarted an attempt of smuggling 230 tola and 10 gram gold from Dubai bound flight no EK-636 on Friday at Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar.
The Air Flight Unit of Customs Collectorate Peshawar seized the gold with six passengers who were arrived from Dubai.
This has been first attempt thwarted by Air Flight Unit of Peshawar Customs on specific information given by Collector Customs Gul Rahman to assistant collector deputed at Bacha Khan International Asma Javed on which he formulated at team consisted of Superintendent Noorul Amin and Inspector Azhar along other officials of Customs posted at Bacha Khan International Airport.
The estimated worth of the seized gold has been Rs 13.5 million in local currency said by AC Asma Javed Paracha while six people have been arrested by the AFU Peshawar BIAP in the corresponding case including Yasin Badshah, Zahid Nawab of Malakand Agency, Zahir Gull and Bashir Ullah of Bajour Agency Muhammad Jan of Lower Dir and Saad Sarwar who belongs to Peshawar.
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed by exercising powers conferred in Customs Acts of 1969 and the accused passengers have been arrested.
The Assistant Collector Asma Javed Paracha lauded the performance of AFU Peshawar Airport and said that enhanced information must be shared in order to sustain the anti-smuggling drive applied by customs department.
The collector Customs at Model Customs Collectorate lauded the efforts of AFU Peshawar Airport for thwarting the attempt of smuggling gold to Pakistan without any document or purchase cheat of the shopping mall.
The collector appraised the AFU for working hard on the busiest Airport of the province where most of economy class travel to Central Asia and Middle East countries. Often attempts are made of smuggling gold in order to earn marginal share of money.
The collector Customs stressed upon the need to facilitate the passengers and importers along exporters to get access to their luggage on time and no time should be spared to facilitate them.
