LAHORE: Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) Sunday urged the government to call a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss ways and means for increasing the country’s exports.
In its meeting here, the PCMEA welcomed the recent announcement by the government to boost exports, and called for evolving a consensus to adopt a national policy with consultations of exporters. The meeting reviewed problems and difficulties of the carpet industry.
Association’s Senior Vice President Riaz Ahmed stressed the need to implement the decisions regarding increase in exports, besides solving the problems of export-oriented industry and manufacturers.
Ahmed suggested the government to review the existing exports policy in the context of the current environment and study the policies of the countries having enhanced exports, to take benefit of their experiences.
He said Pakistani manufacturers were facing difficulties in international markets due to high cost of production, and demanded the commerce ministry help reduce their production cost as well as give facilities and incentives to exporters. “This will enable the exporters to compete with regional and other countries,” Ahmed added.
SVP said that the carpet association had prepared comprehensive proposals to boost exports and would soon share with the government to prepare a national policy to enhance country’s exports.
