ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad took into possession smuggling goods along with a passenger bus coming from Peshawar to Islamabad worth Rs2.89million.
According to details explained by Assistant Collector ASO Islamabad Majid Hussain Gadd while talking with Customs Today that, on a tip-off shared by sources of ASO of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, an attempt of smuggling of foreign origin goods and a passenger bus is excepted to be made into Islamabad.
Assistant Collector told CT that, after getting the said information, the ASO squad set up a picket on GT Road and intercepted a passenger bus with registration No: E-1246-Mardan. The ASO staff asked the possessor of the smuggling goods to show the legal documents but he failed to produce any documentary proofs.
The ASO staff impounded the goods along with the offending vehicle (Vehicle carrying smuggling goods) under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act-1969. The confiscated goods include 67 kg of foreign origin cotton Ryan suiting fabrics worth Rs0.35million while 60 pieces of seized foreign origin LTVs valued at Rs0.24million, 153 tyres and tubes (assorted sizes) priced at Rs0.20million.
The ASO impounded the offending Hino bus, Model 1989, worth Rs2.0million. Assistant Collector said an FIR has been lodged against the possessor of the foreign origin smuggling goods and offending vehicle whereas a case has been registered and forwarded to the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department for further action.
