AMSTERDAM: Panama’s Food Safety Authority (AUPSA) seized two containers with purple and yellow onions from the Netherlands at the Port of Balboa.
Their arrival was irregular as the onions had been harvested more than 120-days ago, which is the maximum period of time established by the Fresh Onion Bulbs Export Protocol between the Netherlands and Panama.
Danny Diaz, the head of Customs said that the period between the products harvest and its date of sale couldn’t exceed 120 days. “This applies to each of the lots that make up a shipment, they must comply with Panama’s plant health and quality regulations for onions.
