LAHORE: Pakistan Customs Land Freight Unit at Wagah Border Lahore has collected nearly Rs 483 million revenue during January 2015 under the head of sales tax, duty tax and income tax.
Pakistan Customs has collected Rs 136.531603 million as duty tax, Rs 163.204931 million as sales tax.
On the other hand, Pakistan and India made trade worth Rs 4.53 billion via wagah border while exports from Pakistan remained Rs 978 million and imports were Rs 3.56 billion. So, the trade deficit stands at Rs 2.582 billion.
Experts are of the view that trade deficit could be reduced by increasing the production of domestic agro products. They said that Pakistan imported vegetables from India because their agriculture sector was more developed and subsidized. They suggested that government should take measures to increase the per acre production by adopting latest technologies and providing facilities to farmers.
