OLSO: Norwegian natural gas exports to continental Europe and the UK set an all-time record in 2017, with shipments via pipeline hitting 117.4 billion cubic meters (Bcm), Kallanish Energy learns. The volume, produced in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), rose 8% compared to 2016, state-owned pipeline system operator Gassco said Thursday. Exports of natural gas liquids (NGLs) and condensates increased to 10.2 million tonnes (MMt) in 2017, up from 10 MMt a year earlier. This performance demonstrates the key role played in European energy supply by Norway’s gas exports,” said Gassco CEO Frode Leversund. “These currently cover about a quarter of Europe’s gas consumption and will remain a secure energy source for consumers there in the years to come.” Gassco operates the Norwegian gas transport infrastructure and processing plants in the country, as well as terminals in Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. Gazprom’s gas exports meet another quarter of the European gas demand and have also increased around 8% year-over-year in 2017.
