ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General, Customs Intelligence (I&I) Rawalpindi, took administrative measures to prevent the theft of impounded vehicles’ spare parts at the State Warehouse. The directorate got some extra revenue by auctioning off vehicles during July to March FY17-18. The directorate has requested the FBR for implementation of measures taken in case of abovementioned theft of spare parts at the Customs SWHs throughout the country.
According to details given by the high officials of the Customs Intelligence Rawalpindi that the directorate installed cameras and enhanced the error-proof vigilance at the State Warehouse (SWH) where directorate kept Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) and offending vehicles after interception. The directorate took said initiative as case study which got outstanding results from previous four auctions. Now no one can enter into the SWH without proper channel as the camera can check and record every movement at SWH.
The sources informed CT that when I&I Rawalpindi staff impounds any vehicle then they have to take a photo of the vehicle on the spot and attach it with the seizure report so that condition of the vehicle could be determined. It was notified that, during last FY16-17, the Directorate of I&I Rawalpindi conducted four auctions and earned Rs.9.5 carore but, during current financial year, the directorate earned 26 carore due to strict monitoring and vigilance of the vehicles kept at the state warehouse.
