Nine bottles of alcohol and other items retrieved from planes passengers

LAHORE: The customs officials have confiscated about nine bottles of alcohol and mobile phones from passengers travelling by different flights during various raids conducted on the Allama Iqbal International Airport during the first week of January.

Sources told Customs Today that the flights were coming from Dubai to Lahore, Turkey to Lahore, Jeddah to Lahore and Muscat to Lahore. The customs took actions in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights, Turkish Airways flight, Gulf Air and Saudi Air flight.

The customs allowed all the passengers to go after the seizure of bottles of alcohol from their possession. The security officers have launched an investigation into the matter. The customs has started strict checking of the luggage of the passengers, especially coming from European countries. A number of attempts of smuggling of foreign currencies and mobile phone accessories and other relevant items have also been thwarted by the customs.

It is a common practice that the passengers, coming from European countries, carry bottles of alcohol with them but many times they leave them on the premises of airport to avoid arrest.
