ISLAMABAD: In an ongoing campaign against the smuggled vehicles, the Special Car Cell, Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Headquarters, has impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled Honda Civic car, Modal 2005, valued at Rs1.496million while evaded duty and taxes’ amount is Rs1.496million.
Following a tip-off, a team of the Special Car Cell, comprising Superintendent Saeed Ahmed, Intelligence Officers Gul Nawaz, Muhammad Kaleem and Sepoy Arslan, intercepted the tipped-off smuggled Honda Civic car with fake registration No: AJV-438 Sindh near Zero Point Islamabad.
Possessor of the car, Zahid Bashir son of Laiq Ali Basjir, a resident of Rawat, Islamabad, was asked to prove the legal status of the vehicle, but he failed to do anything required from him. He could provide only a copy of the registration book. The vehicle did not exist in the import and auction date therefore it was shifted to the headquarters under Section 17 of the Customs Act-969 for further verification.
A letter has also been sent to the Excise and Taxation Office and Motor Registration Authority Karachi for the verification of the car.
