NEW YORK: NASA just revealed its plan of making International Space Station astronauts wear smart glasses in their future outer space endeavours.
Perfect Science has learned that Osterhout Design Group (ODG) was tapped by the U.S. space agency to come up with smart glasses that astronauts can use in the near future.
ODG has already signed a contract with NASA that it will be designing smart glasses that can be used both on Earth and outside of the living planet.
ISS astronauts can use the wearable devices for training purposes on Earth and as hands-free display glasses in space.
The idea is of course intended to help astronauts get their work aboard the ISS efficiently and carry out difficult repairs in space easily.
The smart glasses are currently being tested. Once successful, they will be made available to astronauts training for the ISS, according to NDTV.
“The amount of savings in training could be staggering,” said Manager of New Business Development at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX., Sean Carter. “This could be a game changer for human space flight exploration.”
Sources claim that NASA also intends to promote the use of these glasses among astronauts, who are boarding the Orion spacecraft that primarily enables humans to land on asteroids and even on Mars.
