ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering to grant Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) access to National Database Regulatory Authority system from July 1, 2018, it is learnt here.
Official Sources told Customs Today that the basic purposes to provide access to FBR is to trace the tax evaders, dig out the non-filers who hide their assets and income while to control/decrease the volume of black economy.
Meanwhile, broadening the tax base and inducting new people in the tax net is also aimed. Sources said that FBR’s Broadening Tax Base (BTB) department will monitor the NADRA database online and during the checking if someone found with a heavy transaction, they will be registered under the income tax registration and will thereafter send online notices to submit the income tax returns.
Meanwhile, sources also added that due to expansion in the automation, National Identity Card is used everywhere like banking transaction, booking of vehicles, deal in immoveable & moveable properties and foreign tours. FBR will now have access to NADRA database and will trace out the tax evaders, sources added.
It is important to highlight here that FBR has amended Income Tax Ordinance 2001, and inducted new clause in the Section 216 which stated that FBR will have access to NADRA database in order to bring new people in the tax net and broaden the tax base.
