MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan has recorded the statements of Customs Intelligence and Investigation officials in the case pertaining to the auctioning of smuggled vehicles without body and chassis frames.
Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Irfan Javed, Deputy Director Abdul Mueed Kanjoo, Supertendent Fareed ud din Masood, Investigation Officers Shabir Ahmed, Bashir Tabbasum and others appeared before NAB for recording their statements.
NAB also presented a questionnaire to the suspects, presenting cognizance of the offense committed by the officers of the Customs Intelligence Department Quetta and others under the provisions of NAO 1999 which related to the commission for the auctioning of smuggled vehicles.
The Customs officials also explained the customs rules and procedure adopted for the auctioning of smuggled vehicles during the inquiry. NAB asked the customs officials to explain the method and persons responsible for the transportation of vehicles in and out of the Farooq bonded warehouse.
Sources said that Director Irfan Javed stated before the NAB officials that he cancelled the auction of two vehicles immediately after the said matter came into his knowledge and called his team for the said negligence. He further said that he has recently joined Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta and only one auction was done under his management after posting in Quetta.
Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Abdul Mueed Kanjoo also provided the record of earlier auctions of the smuggled vehicles held under his supervision. He also submitted record of Customs Intelligence Quetta along with details of all auctioned Hino trucks without body and chassis frames since 2013.
It is pertinent to mention here that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta had seized a number of chassis frames worth millions of rupees and auctioned them. But the body and chassis frames of the smuggled vehicles could not be auctioned to public. Further Investigations by NAB Balochistan still underway.
