ISLAMABAD: The corruption is the second largest menace after terrorism in the country, said National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Sunday.
Talking to a news channel he said, the Bureau has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to root out corruption from the country. He said, an internal accountability process had also been initiated in NAB and eight cases had been lodged against NAB officials under National Accountability Ordinance. Over 30 cases had also been filed under disciplinary inefficiency rules, he said, adding that there was a dire need to continue fight against corruption as it was the second largest menace after terrorism.
A mechanism was devised to complete the entire process from receiving of complaints, verification, inquiry, investigation and prosecution within ten months and then the case was referred to the Accountability Court if solid evidences were gathered, he added.
Qamar said the Bureau had started extensive awareness and prevention campaigns to spread the message about ill-effects of corruption.
The NAB chairman informed that Pakistan would host a South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference on anti-corruption soon. The NAB, he said, intended to propose establishment of an anti-corruption network of SAARC countries for collaborative efforts to eradicate corruption.
Qamar said Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) would be signed with China and Malaysia for sharing each other’s experiences in curbing corruption.
