ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee has asked the Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation not to compromise on the quality of the shipping vessels (Ferries) and ensure to buy quality shipping vessels.
The 40th meeting of the Standing Committee on Port and Shipping (Maritime Affairs) was held under the chairmanship of Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MNA, to discuss the agenda circulated vide Notice No.11(1)/2017-Com-I.
The minister informed the committee that by starting a Ferry Service to Iran and Musqat, a lot of people, including religious visitors, will benefit from it and the service will generate a huge revenue. In order to resolve certain objection raised by certain quarters, the Ministry is going to place the issue of starting Ferry Service, before the Cabinet for approval. As regards the new shipping laws which included Bill to enact carriage of goods by Sea Act 2017 and bill to enact sea carriage shipping documents act, 2017, inter-ministerial consultation has been done and soon it will be presented before the cabinet for approval.
The committee lauded the efforts of the ministry to make comprehensive laws in accordance with the demands of present circumstances. The meeting was attended by the members (MNAs) namely, Ch. Muhammad Tufail, Ch. Mahmood Bashir Virk, Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan, Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, Ms. Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Ms. Shaheen Shafiq, Mr. Khalil George, Mr. Lal Chand Malhi and senior officers from the ministry.
