MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization )ASO) recovered huge quantity of non-duty sulphur worth Rs3.5 million along with truck valuing Rs7 million during their action near Faisalabad.
Collector Muhammad Shakeel has intensified the crackdown against smuggled goods under the special directions of Chief Collector Central Region Zeba Hai Azhar to curtail smuggling and anti-smuggling squad stepped up its efforts in the jurisdiction.
It is also reliably learnt that Chief Collector Centre Region Zeba Hai Azhar has unified anti-smuggling strategy with Collector Muhammad Shakeel to curb menace of smuggling and Multan Customs also accelerated crackdown in territory for curbing smuggled goods after clear directions from the chief collector.
Collector Muhammad Shakeel has received secret information from their source that huge quantities of smuggled sulphur will be transported in the Faisalabad region.
Collector formed special team of anti-smuggling squad and directed Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman to foil any attempt of smuggling.
Multan Customs Preventive anti-smuggling squad led by Abdul Rehman Butt intercepted truck bearing registration number: TLX-617 from Faisalabad which was loaded with huge quantity of sulphur. Customs teams examined the truck and recovered 50350 kilograms of sulphur which were packed in sacks. The said sulphur was coming from Quetta and was booked on the Dar-ul-Usman Forwarded Agency from Quetta by Abdul Sattar and Company. The bilty was booked against M/s Premier Paper Mills Sheikhupura during examination of provided documents by driver.
It was also revealed during examination that said non-customs paid sulphur were smuggled from Iran through clandestine routes of Iran and it was smuggled for commercial purpose.
Customs teams recovered almost 1500 foreign origin tyres of different bands and said light traffic vehicles (LTV) were shifted to State ware Customs House. Customs Anti-Smuggling has seized said Iran Origin sulphur along with truck during action upon smuggling charges under Customs act 1969.The value of seized sulphur was almost Rs3.5 million and duty taxes of Rs1.5 million .The value of truck was Rs7 million.
Further investigations against non-duty paid sulphur are still under process.
