MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized an oil tanker loaded with 45,000 liters smuggled Iranian diesel from Sadiqabad region.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Khial Muhammad Khan formed a team after receiving secret information from source that an oil tanker loaded with smuggled diesel would make an attempt to enter into Punjab.
He constituted a special team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation comprising Inspector Muhammad Umer, Inspector Haq Nawaz, Inspector Syed Mohsin Shah and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling from Sadiqabad route.
Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Sadiqabad team intercepted the suspicious oil tanker near Kot Sabzal check post which was coming from Sindh and the driver along with his companion ran away from the spot leaving the oil tanker on the road. Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams tried to arrest smugglers but they took benefit of darkness and fled away from the scene.
Customs Intelligence teams took the oil tanker in their custody and found that High Speed Diesel was smuggled through Iran and it was coming through Sindh and they were trying supply said High Speed Diesel oil to the South Punjab.
The oil tanker was shifted to the Customs Intelligence Office and after seizing it under Customs Act 1969, Customs teams lodged a criminal case against unknown offenders for smuggling of High Speed Diesel. Sadiqabad Intelligence Unit also started investigation against the owner of oil tanker for further action against the accused.
The estimated value of 45000 liters seized High Speed Diesel is Rs 15 million along with oil tanker. Further investigations are still underway.
