MULTAN: Customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle cell phones and goods worth Rs 1.5 million at Multan International Airport.
As per details, Customs authorities received credible information from their source that a smuggling attempt would be made from Multan International Airport. Assistant Collector Muhammad Ikram enhanced scrutiny of goods to thwart any possible attempt and directed his staff to examine goods of the passengers deeply to prevent any sort of smuggling from the airport.
The Customs staff found different patterns during the screening of passengers baggage coming from Shaheen airlines flight no. NL 762 and recovered 30 android phones from the luggage of a passenger who was identified as Naveed. The staff also recovered two branded laptops and a huge quantity of foreign origin under garments packed in the luggage with rolls of cloth.
The total weight of the recovered cloth was almost Rs 41 kilograms. The Customs asked passenger to submit import documents for the recovered cloths and garments but he failed to produce any legal documents.
Then Customs teams decided to seize all recovered goods under Customs Act 1969.
