MULTAN: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization seized huge quantity of smuggled tyres in their action.
According to details, Customs Preventive received credible information from their source that different smuggled tyres were transported in the Faisalabad region. Said tyres were entered into jurisdiction from Quetta and transported in the Jurisdiction through Taunsa route.
Deputy Collector Customs Saqib-ur-Rehman formed special team comprised of Inspector Mehmood Tipu and Abdul Rehman Butt and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling in the territory and also directed anti-smuggling squad to keep strict vigil on the movement of smuggled vehicles and other miscellaneous goods to prevent smuggling.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization teams captured suspected Truck from Head Faisalabad region which were loaded with huge quantity of assorted brands size tyres. Customs staff recovered foreign origin tyres from truck during examination. Almost 180 tyres were recovered during examination of Customs staff.
Drivers of the vehicles presented import documents of loaded goods along with bilities to Customs staff on their demand. Customs found import GDs bogus after verification and taken assorted tyres of different size in their custody under Customs Act 1969. The value of seized goods was Rs2.5 million and duty taxes of Rs2 million.
Further investigations against recovered tyres are still under way.
