MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized huge quantity of foreign origin Diyar (wood) of Rs.10 million during their action.
Sources told Customs Today, that in line with the anti-smuggling drive being pursued by the Federal Board of Revenue, Director Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) Multan Muhammad Akram Chaudhry comprised special team to carry out operation to foil attempt of smuggling. Customs Intelligence and Investigation staff consist of Inspector Haq Nawaz , Inspector Muhammad Umer, Inspector Malik Muhammad Nasir , Zulfiqar, Shakeel ur Rehman and others.
Field Intelligence Unit Multan was deputed at the entrance and exit points of the city to thwart any smuggling attempt. Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams started the physical inspection of coming goods to intercept the said smuggle goods.
Customs Intelligence teams intercepted the suspected truck near Ada Baseera Bahawalpur Bypass which was loaded with huge quantity of foreign origin wood Diyar. The driver of the suspected truck having registration of TKY-490 asked to produce the import documents of the loaded goods to justify their possession.
Said Ddriver provided the import documents to Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams. Import documents of the Diyar wood was proved bogus during the verification of Field Intelligence Unit .Said Diyar wood was coming from Quetta and its destination was Chiniot. The intercepted Diyar (wood ) was non-customs paid and this huge quantity of Diyar (wood) was brought into the country illegally and they were trying to supply said Diyar for the manufacturing of furniture.
The worth of the said seized wood is almost Rs 5 million and truck of Rs.5 million.
