MULTAN: Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch lodged FIR against accused who is involved in smuggling of foreign origin cloth and tyres recovered by Anti-Smuggling Organization.
Sources told Customs Today, that Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted suspected truck bearing registration number: TKJ-876/ Sindh on the credible information shared by Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman. The impounded truck was intercepted near Zahir Peer Darbar Rahim Yar Khan loaded with huge quantity of foreign origin cloths and tyres worth Rs2.8 million.
Customs anti-smuggling squad asked the driver to provide documents of the said recovered goods to justify its legal possession but he failed to produce any relevant documents.
Multan Customs seized the smuggled goods under Customs Act, 1060 and Customs Investigation & Prosecution lodgeD FIR no 18/2018 against accused for smuggling goods.
Driver of the truck, identified as Nazir Ahmad son of Muhammad Jalaluddin and a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, was arrested on charges of smuggling. Multan Customs nominated arrested smuggler in the criminal case for smuggling according to Customs Rules and under section U/S 2(s) 16, 32, 32A, 157(2), 178 of the Customs Act 1969.
It was also revealed that that the above-said accused was trying to supply foreign origin cloths and tyres to different cities of South Punjab. Customs teams took remand of the accused for further investigation in said case.
