MULTAN: The Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) collected Rs 6.202 million duty/taxes on the import of various items during first two months (July-August) of fiscal year 2016-17.
The AFU handled 33 various import consignments during the said period. The value of the import consignments handled by the AFU was almost Rs 67.622 million.
Officials said that the Multan Customs was actively playing its role after the establishment of Multan International Airport in order to facilitate the trade and collection of duty/taxes on various consignments.
The officials added that the business community of the Multan and South Punjab is taking benefit of the services being provided by the Multan AFU for the clearance of their import-oriented consignments. The Multan Customs collected Rs 1.303 million, Rs 3.59 million and Rs 1.36 million in wake of customs duty, sales tax and income tax respectively from AFU during July and August of fiscal year 2016-17.
It may be mentioned here that the AFU cleared only 11 imported various consignments by collecting taxes to the tune of Rs 1.91 million during same corresponding period of last fiscal year 2015-16.
The tax collection and volume of the import consignments through the AFU was increasing overtime due to its better facilities available to importers, they said, adding that the customs has taken initiatives to give a boost to the trade.
