KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the tax department and deputy attorney general on a constitutional petition filed by Abdul Jabbar Dewan, proprietor of M/s M Ahmed and Company, seeking restoration of his sales tax registration number.
While the hearing of the petition, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar also directed them to file their respective para wise comments on the next date of hearing.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that the petitioner is registered as importers/ exporters/ wholesaler and fulfilling all the liabilities properly.
According to the petitioner, he imported seven consignments of finished fabric and filed goods declaration as per law for clearance of the same by claiming benefit of exemption from sales tax in terms of SRO 1125(1)/2001 read with SRO 491(1)/ 2016, however, officials of the customs department denied his request and suspended his sales tax registration number without shown any lawful reason.
Citing Secretary Ministry of Finance, chief commissioner Corporate Regional Tax Office Commissioner Zone-IV, Corporate Regional Tax Office as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court may direct them to restore his sales tax registration number immediately.
