NEW YORK: Motorola Moto G (Gen 2) and the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 are both similar range entry-level devices with the Grand 2 priced a little higher during its launch. Both of them were developed and released in 2014 and came with basic noteworthy features of entry-level smartphones.
Motorola Moto G (Gen 2):
The Motorola Moto G (Gen 2) is no-nonsense device released by Motorola which serves directly as the successor to 2013’s highly popular Moto G. The 2nd generation Smartphone features some minor upgrades over its predecessor but the essence remains the same. It comes with a slightly bigger screen at 5.0 inches, IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colours. It has a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a decent pixel density of 294ppi.
It supports multi-touch input and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Being a Motorola, it is highly supported by Google and hence it was launched with the latest Android v4.4.4 Kit Kat version. It is presently upgradable to the newer and recent Android v5.0 Lollipop OS. The device has the same Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset with the Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU architecture.
The Adreno 305 GPU handles all users’ graphics-related tasks. The lack of an external memory card slot in its predecessor was a downside. However, in the Gen 2, it has an internal 8GB storage capacity which is further upgradable to 32GB. A slight difference is also noticed in the rear camera compared to its predecessor. It now has an 8 MP rear shooter with 3264 x 2448 pixels, LED flash, and autofocus. Other features include geotagging and panorama among others. It records 720p at 30fps and includes a front 2MP secondary camera.
Samsung Galaxy Grand 2:
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is also a development over its predecessor Grand launched way back. It has a 5.25inch 720p display with 16M colours. A decent 280ppi makes the screen sharp and vibrant. While it was released with the Android Jelly Bean v4.3 OS, it is now upgradeable to Android v4.4.2 OS. It comes with a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 with the Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset.
It has an Adreno 305 GPU, similar to the Moto G Gen 2. While it has the same 8GB internal memory, it has a higher 1.5GB RAM and is externally upgradable to 64GB. The Grand 2 has the same 8MP primary camera like the Oppo N3. It comes with all of the basic camera features like autofocus, geotagging, and the likes. It can record full-HD videos with stereo sound and further houses a 1.9MP front camera.
