LAHORE: The mobile phone imports into the country decreased by 8.2 per cent during first two months of current fiscal year 2013-14.
The imports of mobile phone into the country during July-August 2013 were recorded at $99.84 million against the imports of $108.756 million during July-August 2012, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Similarly, the mobile phone imports into the country during the month of August 2013 edged down by 1.67 per cent and increased by 23.47 per cent when compared to the imports in August 2012 and July 2013 respectively. The mobile phone imports during August 2013 stood at $55.162 million against the imports of $56.098 million in August 2012 and $44.678 million in July 2013, the data revealed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s trade deficit during first two months of current fiscal year (2013-14) narrowed by 3.07 per cent as exports witnessed positive growth of 3.66 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.
The exports during July-August 2013 were recorded at $4.091 billion against the exports of $3.946 billion recorded during the same period of last year, showing positive growth of 3.66 per cent.
On the other hand, the imports into the country witnessed very nominal increase of 0.54 per cent by going up from $7.346 billion last year to $7.386 billion during first two months of the year 2013, the data revealed.
Based on these figures, the overall trade deficit during the corresponding period stood at $3.295 billion against the deficit of $3.4 billion in same period of last year, showing negative growth of 3.07 per cent.
