BEIJING: Control officers of Shatian Customs Office stationed by Huangpu Customs District exercised control over a consignment of goods declared by a trading company, using for the first time a portable control pad.
Gao Haiping, a Customs officer on duty that day, was holding the pad to take pictures of the goods placed at the 5th and 6th berth of Humen port.
“This one is small, but it is very powerful and highly efficient”, said Gao, “before, we would have to take the paperwork with us when inspecting the goods. When the inspection was over, we would have to return to the office, filling in the forms and recording the control results. Only when the paperwork was done could we start to clear the goods. Now this new magic tool saves us a lot of time and makes the whole process easier and simpler.”
In just 10 minutes, the inspection for the consignment of goods was finished. “This new mobile inspection system of the Customs improves the efficiency. We enterprises can save money that should have been spent on logistics and demurrage. We are the real beneficiaries”, said Chen, a Customs broker from Dongguan Xinze Customs Broker & Consultation Service Company.
The Mobile Customs Inspection System is a new Customs control operation system developed for the individual use for Customs officers by Huangpu Customs District. When inspecting the goods, Customs officers will use a portable instrument connected with Wi-Fi. With the system, Customs officers can check the documents information and instructions, put in and forward the control results as well as send pictures during the control process.
This high-tech backed system not only brings convenience to the enterprises, but also helps improve clearance efficiency and Customs law enforcement transparency and effectiveness. It is a system that will support Customs efforts to make the control service more “intelligent, efficient and sunny.”
