NEW YORK: Design & Trend reported yesterday that Microsoft is already testing out new Xbox prototypes, and a new wireless chip is already in the works.
Later that same day, Microsoft announced that it has discontinued production of the Xbox 360, but it informed gamers that its servers will stay online.
“The Xbox 360 helped redefine an entire generation of gaming at Microsoft,” Xbox head Phil Spencer said in the newswire post.
“I am incredibly proud of all of the work and dedication that went into development of the Xbox 360 hardware, services and games portfolio over the last decade.”
What was most interesting about the post is how Spencer ended his announcement.
“Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be sharing more of our plans for gaming on Xbox One, Windows 10 and beyond,” Spencer said.
The “and beyond” part may possibly be referring to the HoloLens, but why wouldn’t Spencer simply say so?
This is why it is now being speculated that this might be a hint at the possibility of an announcement of a new Xbox One feature, or even possibly a new Xbox console, as pointed out by Videogamer.
Last month, Spencer hinted that they are planning on revealing a “new hardware capability during a generation.”
Earlier this month, he also said that he wants to deliver a substantial upgrade and not just a more powerful version of the Xbox One.
Spencer said that he’s not a fan of releasing an Xbox “One and a Half,” like Sony’s much-rumored PlayStation 4.5 that’s currently codenamed Neo.
It is believed that Microsoft and the Xbox team may be working on allowing users to perform hardware upgrades to their current Xbox One console.
Another interesting tidbit about Spencer’s most recent statement is that they would be sharing new information in the next weeks and months.
This may be alluding to the upcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3), which is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles this coming June, as pointed out by GameSpot.
Everything is just speculations right now, but it looks like Microsoft and the Xbox team may have some important announcements to come real soon.
