MIANWALI: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Mianwali on Wednesday seized smuggled computers, LCD and other accessories worth Rs 4.3 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 2.3 million, besides impounding vehicle Nissan trailer worth Rs1.2 million.
Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig received information regarding some smuggling attempts, on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Muhammad Mansha and Muhammad Umar Bhatti, and Sepoys Muhammad Feroz, Muhammad Anwar, Said Rasool and others.
The team intercepted a Nissan trailer which was loaded with smuggled items near Toll Plaza MM Road, Mianwali and recovered used computer CPU 300-pcs, Laser Jet Printer 50-pieces, Ram 728-pcs, including LCD 45-pieces and computer adopter, power cable for computer, key board and mouse cleared from Karachi Port Qasim.
During the course of checking the driver, Muhammad Nawaz produced a copy of goods declaration and informed that the importer of this consignment is Muhammad Mushtaq. He further said that goods were lifted from Karachi Port Qasim and then were booked from Awan Cargo Carrier Service.
Furthermore, the ASO team after finding some discrepancies seized the goods and the detention has been converted into proper seizure under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
